where did you get that left hand hmr?

  5. bitterclinger Says:

…couldn’t fit in previous comment, but the scope I mounted on my Savage 17 HMR is a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9x40mm. So the Leupold Rifleman “high” rings will accommodate a 40mm lens with lens caps…if you get something smaller or larger than 40mm then you’d have to match your rings to that specific scope. Other options…Nikon makes a 4x32mm (fixed power) rimfire scope for $110 and Leupold has 3 rimfire models all the way up to their $400 VX-II 3-9x33mm EFR rimfire model.

FYI…anyone buying one of these Savage rimfire guns (or other rimfire rifles) needs to be aware that the barrel is straight (no bump at the the bolt) As a result you’ll need to use higher scope rings to allow for the front bell of your scope (and any lens cap) to clear the barrel. I used weaver-style Leupold Rifleman matte black “high” rings (model# 55870). The medium rings allow for the scope to clear the bull barrel, but there’s no room left for a lens cap…so get the high rings.

@MrJumBow Thanks for your service and these videos. These were very helpful in narrowing down the options for a good groundhog/target gun. Do you remember the specific Harris bipod you have? I watch Predator Quest and like the one he uses to hunt coyotes…I think his is a 25C bipod. Basically, I need something that I can use for kneeling or sitting out in a field to bust some groundhogs & targets. I’m a southpaw too, but bought the less expensive blue steel bull barrel model 93R17 GLV.

I also plan on buying .17 Hornady rounds, are these a good option? Other buyers gave them a good review. I appreciatte your help.

I’m thinking of getting a .17 hmr from cabela’s catalog by savage arms. It’ll be my first rifle, I live in a somewhat dangerous city, And I’d like to take some comfort in knowing I can protect my mother and sister if I have too, It’s not going to rot in my cabinet, I plan on shooting for fun. The price is right. Do you have any suggestions at all? I feel a bit overwhelmed with the sheer variety.

A well done video MrJumBow. Much, much better than most of the amateur gun test or gun review videos on YouTube. Enjoyed it. BTW,….been to Livingston, MT. Loved it! Best to you.

@MRjumbow 200 yard gun, you could kill someone at 350 yards if you wanted to

:P The reverse video was great. You make shooting fun. Beautiful .17hmr rifle ya got there, love the ss bull barrel. I’m still pondering a .17hmr (Savage or Marlin), 12 or 20 gauge Rem 870, and Marlin 336 .30-30 –all nice rifles :)

  17. MrJumBow Says:

@WhitetailBowmaster Sorry for the late reply. I been a slacker. The butt pad was already in place whenever this rifle came in for me. These 17s have zero recoil so a really large butt pad is not needed. Thanks for the question :)

  18. WhitetailBowmaster Says:

Did the butt pad come installed on the rifle, or did you purchase and install it afterwards? (Mine’ll be in between a week and a week and a half!!! :o )

@reptiledelight You might just have a novel idea here. I will have to dig around my house and see if I can find an old discarded cell phone. Thanks for the suggestion :)

  20. MrJumBow Says:

@rubadux No I am just afraid that the only chore that this rifle does well is to spit 17 grain bullets down range. Thanks for the comments, humor and review :)

  21. MrJumBow Says:

@dellmar94 I appreciate the video review and comments :)

what an amazing piece of craftsmanship, your rifle. In the vid, you can almost feel the smoothness of the stock. And it doubles up as a can opener; a bad one, however, I suppose, in the case of soda cans, and if you still want to drink the content …
    : D

  24. dellmar94 Says:

    Great video.

  25. MrJumBow Says:

@BugMoneyFishing Actually, ALL of those objects were glued down to that cardboard box. My digital camera and tripod were placed very close to that entire target area. Just a precautionary measure :)
