Spring Turkey Hunt In Texas with Primos Double Bull

Posted on 18 December 2010 by trickac

Finally got lucky after some of the hardest hunting I have ever seen turkey hunting. Set up on this bird the morning before and he wouldn’t even look at a decoy or the calls. The birds would not gobble at all this late in the year down there. I decided to set up the double bull in the middle of the field we spotted him in and sat it out for three hours. After calling every couple minutes and seeing nothing he finally showed up. A hen walked by off camera but the three decoys I had set out turned out to be to irresistable. It was an awesome hunt and the biggest bird I have ever killed. Although you can’t tell on this video, it took him about 15 minutes to actually come all the way in. He was the boss around there as you can see him turn and send that other big gobbler in the other direction. I didnt have a mouth call so I just had to make my best effort at a turkey call to get him to put his head up for a shot. Full Throttle Outdoors

  18. VeryGunhappy Says:

O.K. I understand, thank you for the answer. ;-)
Well I do not have any practical experience in hunting, so excuse the silly question. ;-)
I know from professional hunters a little bit about all this from hearing and saying but that’s it already. You can not hunt animals at all with your own gun on your own property here, without having the necessary permits and courses. Everything is pretty complicated here concerning these matters. :-( (
    It’s not Texas! LoL!

    Nice hunt Zac

  20. Zachrys Says:

I definitely wouldn’t reccomend calibers that small. The turkeys I’ve experienced have been extremely tough. A tight pattern of heavy loads in the neck and head under forty yards would be my reccomendation. Unless u start using the big 3 and a half inch shells u can get out to fifty yards or so.

  21. AceOfJon Says:

    damn…LOL

  22. hoghunterdiva Says:

Wonderful! By the way, the size of the beard doesn’t matter, as all birds are great birds, it’s the quality of the hunt and you got it here! Congrats!

  23. VeryGunhappy Says:

Thats a semiauto shotgun with an extra heavy 4mm load of lead bullets, if I have got that right.
Would a similar result also be possible with a .17 hmr, .22 hp hv lr or .22 hp mag if you get a a good body hit? VG

  24. Zachrys Says:

I used a 12 gauge Browning Gold Hunter with a Winchester 3 inch shell. USe heavy load fours with a extra full turkey choke.

  25. VeryGunhappy Says:

What calibre did you use for that big one?

@vinster135 ya. been hunting Beezeley for years for mulies…filled 15 tags in twenty years on mulies here and more in adaho and oregon and BC. My average yardage for a shot is 257 yds. Used to hunt late blacktail on wet side… avg shot distance 37 yds. sage is harder to hunt as far as visibility, but far less noisy. think whitetail vs mulie vs blacktail is matter of preference and experience as well as good dose of the “chicken or the egg” argument.

  27. 007Gofer Says:

LOL NICKLIKESTONOSEPICK? U would know being one those loosers? Thought so. Grow some balls and act like a man boi.

  28. NickLikesToSweepPick Says:

Stop talking like a goddamn vagina.

  29. vinster135 Says:

ok i have hunted both blacktail and mule dear……. mule deer are just as skiddish but better hearing eye sight ect….. and usually a couple hundred more yards away

  30. 007Gofer Says:

nothing cool about hunting an animal with a gun. real “Men” Its when they shot back ur a real man like the South African Army and the Angolan border u poofs.

  31. KcinOutdoors Says:

Totally agree! Blacktails are the ultimate!

  32. RealBadMojo Says:

Black tail bucks are tough… very skittish.

Mulee’s are pretty predictable but still it’s hunting, not walking in a park. However, I prefer the size of mule deer any day, it’s like wasting a tag on a black tail.

  33. ronpaul2008rocks Says:

    Hell yes they are!

  38. acmcdc Says:

  39. mmagooooo Says:

we take blacktails in the olympic mountains very easily compared to the mule deer on the eastern side of the cascades. my comments are from my hunting trips, other people may think different.

  40. BrianChoules Says:

hahahhahahaha this comment cracks me up. Mule deer are harder to hunt than Blacktial? Blacktail are the hardest deer to hunt by far. They are like ghosts.

  41. chenke721 Says:

    beautiful rifle!!! is that a 700lss in 375RUM 26″bb
sad they don’t make them no more.

  42. RSPWNZ007 Says:

  43. mmagooooo Says:

nice deer,we do alot of hunting in gmu 328 in reeser.mule deer I think are by far the hardest deer to hunt.we hunt archery and they are tough to get close to.blacktail and whitetail are easier to hunt with archery, but after it’s all done, they all taste good.

  44. sirfunkeybut Says:

what GMU were you hunting in. Do you ever bowhunt? I got my first buck last season in “139″

  45. Rednecklogger69 Says:

  46. Puert1227 Says:

Nice buck! Where abouts in Washington did you get it? I’m from Raymond but I’m living in Ellensburg.

  47. iiii1ii Says:

Yeah they closed it 1 month ago for a gun threat so no more gun range

  48. Rodnoneous45aylmore Says:

    serious?

  49. iiii1ii Says:

I’m so glad i’m in idaho minimal gun restrictions and a shooting range in my high school basement

  50. Rodnoneous45aylmore Says:

True, but on the other hand we dont have any where near as much gun related crime as you guys do. We lost semi-auto weapons and pump shotguns a few years back and the number or armed robberys decreased steadily. I own a ka-bar and often carry that, but only because we get alot of muggings.
