Out doing a little hunting and scouting for doves. We say this area and thought it would be a good spot to call a coyote. Turns out we were right. Coyote was taken with shotgun shooting 3′ Dead Coyote.
Check out by video’s on improving the accuracy of this rifle by free floating the barrel and bedding the action A review of my Remington 700 sps varmint 308 win A big thanks goes out to everyone who has commented and give suggestions. December 12th, 2010 at 5:27 pm

December 12th, 2010 at 5:57 pm
nice shot at that range i think not, he shot 2 more times…..
December 12th, 2010 at 6:36 pm
where was this taken??? looks like a nice spot.
December 12th, 2010 at 7:11 pm
what load did you use
December 12th, 2010 at 7:51 pm
the yanke poke haha
December 12th, 2010 at 8:22 pm
wow good shot
December 12th, 2010 at 9:13 pm
i shot one running 132 with the dead coyothe round
December 12th, 2010 at 9:45 pm
They are expensive. And while he did connect with this coyote at such a long range he and I agreed those long shoots should be the exception and not the rule. That coyote had winded us and was on the way out. Had it not been leaving he would have waited for it to get closer to take the shot.
December 12th, 2010 at 10:15 pm
outstanding.
that little bastard didn’t know what hit him.
December 12th, 2010 at 10:43 pm
Nice shot so the dead coyote load lives up to its range hype. there expensive shells
December 12th, 2010 at 11:40 pm
He said he was using Dead Coyote. I believe they call it size “T”.
December 13th, 2010 at 12:30 am
What size shot were you using?
December 13th, 2010 at 1:03 am
@PredatorWild Good point
December 13th, 2010 at 1:58 am
That’s a good sign that the coyotes will like it, too.
December 13th, 2010 at 2:51 am
I thought it was pretty close to that. The delay between the shot and the coyote actually hitting the dirt shows it was a long shot.
December 13th, 2010 at 3:19 am
I went back there with my rangefinder and that tree is actually 127 yards form where we were sitting. So 90 yards is pretty close to right.
December 13th, 2010 at 3:51 am
My dog was psyched when he heard the call sound in this vid. He gave me that “can we hunt!?!?!?!?!” look.
Nice job blastin’ it man
December 13th, 2010 at 4:16 am
Nice kill
December 13th, 2010 at 4:42 am
Around 90 yards.
December 13th, 2010 at 4:58 am
Good shot!
December 13th, 2010 at 5:15 am
How far away was that shot taken?
December 13th, 2010 at 5:19 am
ha thats funny, i was goose hunting and we were driving along and i had dead coyote in and we saw one so i jumped out and smoked it
December 13th, 2010 at 6:10 am
That was an impressive shot for a shotgun.
December 13th, 2010 at 7:05 am
It was actually Dead Coyote
December 13th, 2010 at 7:17 am
@wildernesseducation still the same stock, same stock thats on the new vtr models also
December 13th, 2010 at 7:53 am
Just to clear a few things up on here and I am no expert just a avid shooter and smith. For the comment on remington 700 being unsafe and firing without pulling the trigger..you are correct due to the placement of the trigger hold bar.In 1998 remington came out with a updated trigger called the Xmark with this trigger all mastakes were fixed.Later in 2003 the Xmark pro came out which is the top of the line.Fully adjustable without dissasembly.
December 13th, 2010 at 7:53 am
@EMERALDEMMY the X-mark pro trigger group as this rifle has is modified to prevent the problem that Remington has had in the past. It is actually the original solution that the designer of the problem trigger suggested, just by a different name.
December 13th, 2010 at 7:58 am
@tylerdurden1971 the sps varmint does not come with a 20 inch barrel it only comes with a 24in barrel. I am guessing that you have the sps tactical which does have a 20 inch barrel a houge stock and free floating barrel. Don’t try and compare two completely different rifles and then say i am a shit shot buddy. Especialy after i have proved in other videos that it was the lack of free floating that was causing the problem with accuracy. Like to see you shooting 2″ at 500 yards. Prove it !!
December 13th, 2010 at 7:59 am
The Rem 700 has been UNSAFE for 60 years because they can fire without touching the trigger. It is a proven fact but Remmy wont do a recall on the trigger.
December 13th, 2010 at 8:40 am
@freboi it could be now that remington has improved the stock since this video i don’t know. After i bedded the rifle action into the stock it was shooting sub MOA thier is nothing wrong with the quality of the barrel and action. It is the stock that has some issues. thanks

I appreciate your review, it was well done. That said, I ended up buying this exact gun anyway. It was just 430 USD so I couldn’t help myself. I must say I was pleasantly surprised in its performance. The trigger pull had to be backed down from 6841 pounds or whatever it was, but once I got that worked out I was rewarded with very regular sub MOA groups. I cannot help but think you had some kind of defect in the weapon you purchased or the wrong ammo, but, you’ve said it wasn’t the ammo…
December 13th, 2010 at 9:21 am
Nice review, but I have to say if your having accuracy problems there is a 99.9% probability its not the rifle. Trigger pull, breathing slowly, proper finger placement on the trigger, and proper trigger pull. Plus the type of ammo you shoot also plays a factor……don’t be so fast to blame the gun.
December 13th, 2010 at 9:26 am
@happy543210 no shit, thats what im saying, if that thing did tumble then there is something seriously wrong with that rifle, which wouldnt suprise me given the group that this bloke shot, and the shape of the last bullet hole through the target, i also thing that there is a fair chance he’s developed a flinch, judging by the way the hits start high then move lower as he continues the group, he should mix a dud in with a box of normal ammo the test for this, see if he flinches when it comes up
December 13th, 2010 at 10:01 am
@donorcanvas
How could a .308 tumble at 100 yards with absolutely no wind? That’s not right.
December 13th, 2010 at 10:41 am
Iv had this rifle for about a year now and never fired it, still no scope. I have an AK project to finish before that. Whats a long term owners report on this rifle? Iv seen a healthy aftermarket for this as well.
December 13th, 2010 at 11:38 am
@chadreedfan221 cheers, ya learn something new every day
December 13th, 2010 at 12:37 pm
@happy543210 hell a 22 hornet would do the job nice and economicaly
December 13th, 2010 at 1:11 pm
looks like there was som tumble on that last shot, that could acount for the lack of accuracy you are getting there
December 13th, 2010 at 1:26 pm
@happy543210 There are about 20 things that could affect a shot like that.
Cheap ammo would not make a group spread like that in 100 yards. Cheap ammo is characterized by a high differentiation in powder mass between cartridges, which effects velocity, which effects bullet drop which results in a vertical spread. His is pretty much all over, vertical and horizontal. I would check the scope for alignment, connections and test performance on another gun.
December 13th, 2010 at 1:58 pm
@micbaca
I agree. He’s probably using cheap ammo and flinching as he takes the shot.
December 13th, 2010 at 2:52 pm
Why is a “varmint” rifle chambered for .308 Winchester? That’s to big a round for small animals. The .223 Remington is a better round for varmints–and cheaper too.
December 13th, 2010 at 3:08 pm
You complain about no bedding or free floating barrel, but Remington DOES build that kind of rifle–you’re just gonna have to pay more for it.
December 13th, 2010 at 3:36 pm
great video and presentation. The group at the end was horrible. At 100 yds
even with a non accurized rifle, I would expect a 2″ group or better. Something is
way wrong with your gun or your technique. That thing should be a tack driver at 100 yds.
December 13th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
Thanks for your rifle reviews. Thanks to you I checked into Tikka T3′s I never heard of. I just purchased a used Tikka T3 Varmint chambered in .223 with all bells and whistles and I absolutely love the rifle. Very accurate and smooth. Thanks again!
December 13th, 2010 at 4:32 pm
@Kahur2007 a rifle is only as good as the person holding it. Expensive doesn’t necessarily mean better.
December 13th, 2010 at 5:30 pm
@chadreedfan221 go to my channel page and have a look at the videos on free floating and bedding the ation of the remington 700

@wildernesseducation How do you free float the barrel? And can you do it to this rifle?
December 13th, 2010 at 6:48 pm
@emoskater1212 ITs called varmint because of the barrel. The heavy barrel makes it good for shooting gophers or coyote because you can shoot alot of them with out the barrel heating up.When it heats up you loose accuracy
