Coyote Hunting Competitions
Now is the time of year that coyote hunting competitions are popping up around rural communities around the country. Most competitions are one day in length and have specific rules to keep the contestants engaging the coyote with the same tactics. As an example the use of dogs is usually not allowed because it can be seen as an unfair advantage since most coyote hunters do not have a dog trained for this type of hunting.
Having rules give the coyote hunting experience fun for all participants. I am looking into a competition for this coming weekend. My partner and I need to get out and get some of the cob webs cleaned out since we have not been in a competition for awhile. During the mule deer hunting season we checked out many new areas where it looked like good habitat for the coyote to live in. There are a few areas we found skat in the road around ever turn. This is a good sign that there are many coyotes in that area.
The weather looks like it will be good this weekend and my anticipation to get out and learn some new areas is almost palitable. I like seeing the wonders that God has given us to enjoy. I need to purchase a new camera to take some pictures of these interesting areas so you can see what I mean.
My favorite time to do coyote calling is first thing in the morning when the dawn is breaking and you can just start to see. My second favorite time is the last call of the day. Then there is the rush to check in and the hopes that you can get into the prize money. This is always nice to get reimbursed for all the money spent on gas. The contest this weekend has a first place prize of $500 dollars. I will let you know how I we do.
