This video gives the viewer a basic understanding of rifle scope reticles and their use. Larry Potterfield, CEO and Founder of MidwayUSA, explains not only what a reticle is, but also the differences in reticles and their uses. The reticle, or crosshairs, is the aiming device used inside most popular rifle scopes. While the use of crosshairs is now over a hundred years old, many improvements have been made in recent years. Changes such as the stepping of a wider crosshair down to a thinner wire for aiming, allows the shooter to more easily see the crosshairs in low light situations or while aiming during a hurried string of fire. This type of reticle is known as a duplex reticle. Another reticle examined in this video is the dot reticle. This reticle uses very thin crosshairs with a small dot at their point of intersection. This reticle is typically used for long distance target or varmint shooting. This information can be applied to scopes manufactured by all firms, including Leupold, Burris, Weaver, Millett, Bushnell, Zeiss, Swarovski, Nikon, Kahles, Tasco, and others.

@cattnipp No but people shoot them at distance to stop them from ruining land. Sometimes in different areas a certain critter is considered a nuisance or even invasive species and their numbers need to held in check.

Technically yes and actually yes. .30 caliber IS 7.62. They are both measurements describing the same diameter. Just like 4.4lbs IS 2kg.
I didn’t mention anything about powder or case length.

@FalseShadowx
Technically yes but actually no. 7.62mm diameter is equivalent to a .308 round. However there are many different rounds with the same diameter, but different cartridge length.

It is spelled caliber as well. 7.62 IS 30 caliber.

You need to spend more on a scope…at least $300-400 at a minimum.
The Harris Bipods are some of the best for the money.

I own a savage 11fcns with the new accu trigger and accu stock. I only shoot at a range that goes up to 300 yards. Any recommendations on rifle scopes that are good for that and costs only up to $150.00. Also are the harris bipod any good. Thanks

lol. a mildot scope on airsoft…. yeah let’s compensate 20 MOA on a 200 yard shot… better aim with the bottom edge of the scope.

I’m 15 and i shoot a 7.61x54R calibre rifle which is slightly bigger than a 30 calibre nearly the size of a 30/06… i don’t know what a high powered rifle is to you, a 50 calibre? if so, then yeah i agree with you.

i’m kinda unimpressed with this video because they left out the mil-dot reticles. those are even more common than the standard dot reticles. my air rifle scopes all have duplex reticles. i need a Leapers scope with mil-dots. they sound and look really cool. i think those are the best for hunting. duplex is for all-round shooting. can’t wait to get a mil scope.
